COBALT (2017) Short Animation - Trailer
SYNOPSIS:
A little mole was working in a mine. A mole had a beautiful friend, a firefly. They worked together and shared food. They helped each other every day. There lived a big hand outside the mine. The hand provided them with a loaf of bread in exchange for a sack of cobalt. One day, the hand suddenly discovered the firefly was so annoying and killed it. Sadness overwhelmed a little mole who saw its only friend’s death. Finally, a mole thought of something that he had never dreamt of before.
DIRECTORS STATEMENT:
This is a short animation about the real story of the child labour in Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. The country has the world richest mineral repository like Cobalt, Copper and Tantalum. These minerals are the most important ingredients of rechargeable Li-ion battery that is in your mobile phone and laptop. More than half rechargeable li-ion batteries are made with the labour of Congolese miners including children as young as seven.
I hope this film could encourage the audience to be aware of the real story of the unfortunate children in DRC.
